by Barbara Bray and Kathleen McClaskey – Co-founders, Personalize Learning LLC

Over the next few months, we will be engaging with Barbara Bray and Kathleen McClaskey, co-founders of Personalize Learning LLC, in a series of joint posts on Learner Agency. Learner agency often gets left out of conversations on education transformation and even conversations about personalized learning. Yet it is a critical component in any attempt to personalize the learning experience with learners.

To introduce our readers to Barbara and Kathleen, we would like to share a link to one of their previous posts, Focus on the Learner, Not Technology. This post explores the confusion in the marketplace around the term “Personalized Learning.” They make a point that to personalize learning, the focus needs to be on and about the learner first. The teacher’s role and the culture in the classroom changes. The authors share how technology is not the driver but can enhance the journey to personalize learning. They ask readers to consider this question: “Is personalizing learning done to you or for you, or do you personalize learning for yourself?”

Check out their post to learn more about why learning is personal and then watch our blog and theirs as we jointly explore the concepts around learner agency.
