Without question, technology has important roles to play in a personalized learning ecosystem. However, the presence of technology alone has not been shown to increase learning. In fact, as a nation we have spent billions on technology without moving the needle on student achievement. As with the other elements in this ring of cells, what matters is aligning technology to the learning needs of learners and the purposes of instruction. Learning aligned technology can enhance, deepen, or accelerate understanding of content. In addition to consumption, learners can focus on creation through technology tools. Learners can also build a technology toolbox to utilize when demonstrating understanding of learning.
